Catheter Assisted Therapy
This is used in patients with massive deep vein thrombosis extending to the iliac vein or inferior vena cava. A catheter is placed in the occluded segment of DVT and thrombolytic drug is infused for a certain period of time( usually 24 hour) alone or with ultrasonographic waves.( EKOS system)
Angioplasty and Stent
After the dissolution of the thrombus if there is still residual severe stenosis in the vessel then the vessel is dilated with balloon and stents designed for venous system may be implanted if necessary.
DVT with Postthrombotic Syndrome
Patients with chronic DVT and Postthrombotic Syndrome ( venous ulcers, severe edema in the lower extremities) can also be treated with balloon angioplasty and venous stenting whenever needed.
